Caprese Skewers: The Appetizer That Always Disappears First

Need a quick appetizer that looks fancy but takes almost no effort? Caprese skewers are the perfect mix of fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil, finished with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic glaze. Simple, colorful, and guaranteed to vanish from the table.

Ingredients

  • 10 cherry tomatoes
  • 10 mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
  • 10 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water, then gently pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Drain the mozzarella balls and lightly pat them dry so they hold better on the skewers.
  3. Take a small skewer or toothpick and thread on one cherry tomato first.
  4. Fold a basil leaf in half (if large) and slide it on next.
  5. Add one mozzarella ball after the basil.
  6. Repeat the process until all ingredients are used.
  7. Arrange the skewers neatly on a serving plate in a single layer.
  8. Drizzle evenly with olive oil.
  9. Just before serving, finish with a light zigzag drizzle of balsamic glaze for extra flavor and presentation.

Tips & Variations

  • Add a slice of prosciutto for a savory twist (swap one ingredient to stay at five).
  • Use shorter toothpicks for bite-sized party snacks, or long skewers for a more elegant look.
  • Chill for 20–30 minutes before serving for a refreshing summer treat.
