Mexican Street Tacos are the heart of authentic street food culture — simple, fresh, and bursting with flavor. Traditionally served on small corn tortillas, these tacos are topped with just a few essentials: tender meat, onion, cilantro, and lime. With only five ingredients, you can recreate this classic taste of Mexico right at home.
Ingredients (2 servings)
- 4 small corn tortillas
- 200g cooked shredded chicken (or pork/beef)
- ½ white onion, finely chopped
- 1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
Instructions
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium-high heat for about 30 seconds per side until soft and slightly charred. Keep warm under a clean towel.
- Finely chop the onion and cilantro. Cut the lime into wedges.
- In the same skillet, reheat the shredded meat until sizzling hot. If dry, add a splash of lime juice or a teaspoon of water.
- Place hot meat on each tortilla, then top with onion and cilantro.
- Serve immediately with lime wedges for squeezing over the tacos.
Tips
- Best served in 3–4 small tacos per person, just like in Mexico.
- Add salsa or hot sauce for extra heat (swap out onion or cilantro to stay within 5 ingredients).
- Works perfectly with leftover rotisserie chicken.
